CLUB FUN DAY
A lovely afternoon with 8 rinks of Mills bowlers playing a format where everyone played in each position by swapping after each end which provided some great bowling, some surprising back end play from those who are less experienced and lots of laughs along the way.  Congratulations to Keith Dunsby, Jackie Dunsby, Alan Heather & Dave Cox who had the best shot difference overall. Once again a big thank you to so many members who joined in to make it so successful and also to those who came along to watch.

LEAGUE UPDATE

Our men had a good game against Carterton B this week which they won 5-1 - still in third place in the league - next week sees a match against West Witney.
Ladies' league has ended and we finished up in 5th place which we are pleased with for our first season. Now onto the league cup where our first game was unfortunately cancelled due to a mix up with venues but we did gain the 2 points for the first game so hopefully will go on to do well in future games. This week the men also play their first Hawker Cup games - 2 teams taking on Adderbury and Kidlington on Friday night so good luck to all who are playing.

LATEST NEWS
Some more good games this week - special welcome to Ella Connor, one of our new junior members, who played her first club game and was one of the members of the highest winning rink - well done Ella. Just a reminder that our Captain & President's Day will now take place later in the season (hopefully on 13 September) and 26 July will now be a club game/fun day - please make sure you keep your names up and if anyone else wants to join in add your name to the list or let Lyn know.

CYRIL ALLEN TRIPLES

Another super afternoon's bowling in our annual triples competition. A great turn out with 10 triples playing games of 4 ends, moving around the green and swapping bowling postions within their triple.  Congratulations to the winners Dan Shurey, Ann Squire and Ron Smith and also to runners up Mike Miles, Rosemary Robinson and Jack Miles.

CLUB UPDATE

Great news that lots of work has been carried out to improve our changing rooms and facilities. We hope that members enjoy the improvements that have been made. Many thanks to all that have helped to make this possible.

OPEN DAY

What a great day we have had for our open day today.  Perfect weather and lots of visitors who seemed to really enjoy bowling and socialising with the members who were on hand to help with bowling, have a chat and hand out teas and cakes. We are very pleased to be welcoming some new members. A very positive day and very worthwhile. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it so successful.

If you are interested in having a go to see if you would like playing bowls it is never too late so contact us via the email link on this website and we will be pleased to arrange to meet you at the green and give you the opportunity to try it out.

SHORT MAT SUCCESS

Congratulations to Witney Mills Weavers who have won the West Oxfordshire Short Mat League this year and also to the FlyingShuttles who won the Witney Town Short Mat league.  Great results with some excellent bowling - well done to all members of these teams.

RACE NIGHT

It was great to see so many Witney Mills members, their families and friends having a fun time at our Race Night on 7th March and to welcome our friends from other bowls clubs who supported the event.  Many thanks to all who helped to organise the night and to Witney Town Bowls Club for letting us hire their facilities to run the event.  This was a great example of how friendships build between clubs in our sport.

Watch this space for future events!!

GREAT FUTURE FOR THE MILLS

How brilliant for our club this year that we have so many newer players featuring in our finals - Emily Smith, Dan Shurey, Amanda Weller, Alec Tyrell and Dave Cox.  Also great to see Bex Dunsby coming back into form having left off bowling for a long time after playing in her teens and a few games several years ago.  The future looks good for the Mills!

CONGRATULATIONS

More congratulations due to the winners of the ladies' pairs, Emily Smith and Bex Dunsby, and to the runners up, Amanda Weller and Carole Regan.  Also to Pete Wilson who has won the Point Cup by beating Chris Weller in the final.

Congratulations to Carole Regan and Dan Shurey, our Singles winners this year.  Also to Jackie Dunsby and Chris Weller, the runners-up.
We had some really close and nail-biting ends to games in both men's and ladies' singles this year so well done to everyone who entered.

NEW CLUB SIGN

A great addition to the club this week when a new sign was erected beside the gate to welcome people to Witney Mills Bowls Club. Thanks go to Keith Dunsby for organising the production of the sign and gaining sponsorship from Bakers Butchers, Bex Dunsby for designing it and Adrian Dunsby & Chris Smith for erecting the sign to complete the project.  It looks great and makes the club look so much more professional.

ROLL UP FOR OUR ROLL UP SESSIONS
Wednesday afternoon roll ups will continue this year.  Meet up with other members for a practice, improving your game and some fun. These will take place each week except the first Wednesday of each month when the green is closed for maintenance.
